The Octagon cottage is an exposed post-and-beam construction with mortise and tenon joinery.  It is a barrier free design and wheelchair friendly.  Full length windows on two sides provide a panoramic view of the Gulf.  There is a full kitchen with dining area, a large living room, one large bedroom with a split-king bed, a three piece bath with roll-in-shower, (no tub), a circular stair leading to the observation tower.   It is furnished with an electric fireplace, sofa, two comfortable chairs, rocking chair, coffee table, satellite TV, DVD player, and kitchen table and chairs.  The observation tower has a bench type table with two high barstools.  The living room and bedroom floors are locally grown larch wood with ceramic tile in the bathroom and congoleum in the kitchen.  There is a wrap-around deck on five sides of the building, as well as a separate deck on the cliff's edge overlooking Chimney Corner Beach and Margaree Island. One of the unique features of this cottage is its wheelchair friendly design. The open concept between the kitchen, dining area, and living room allows for full wheelchair mobility.  The single floor design and wide hallway provide easy access from the bedroom to all ground floor living spaces.  All light switches are specified height from the floor, as is the bedroom thermostat for the electric heat. 

The bedroom has a hardwood floor and ample space for maneuverability.  The king size bed can be split into twin long beds to accommodate the needs of a guest in a wheelchair.  The ensuite bathroom features a roll-in shower with ceramic tile floor.  The vanity features lever controls and has a tilting vanity mirror. The shower is designed to facilitate easy transfer to a portable seat.  Shower controls are at the appropriate height, with a hand held shower attachment.  The clearances, height, and grab-bars for the toilet and vanity meet the barrier-free specifications.  A pocket door affords privacy and also ease of access for a wheelchair.  There is an exterior ramp to the deck.

Please Note: While the kitchen stove has controls in the front for wheelchair access, the kitchen counters and sink are the standard 36" height and design. The thermostats in the bathroom and living room are also standard height.

Dimensions:  Eight sides, each 14' wide by 10'6" high opening to cathedral type ceiling with exposed beam work.  Diagonal distance 36'9".  Total floor area: 1100sq. ft.  Attached deck area: 508 sq. ft.  Cliff deck, 200 sq. ft.

Rates:  $300/night, $2000/week + 13% HST.  Three night minimum.  Off-season by reservation. One-third deposit with all rentals. The breakfast option is an additional $25 per couple, per night.($288/$1922 US, $199/$1326 EUR)

SPECIAL Cottage guests who rent for four or fewer nights have the option of enjoying a full, gourmet breakfast at the B&B at the rate of $25 per couple, per night.

Cancellation Policy:  3 weeks.  There is a $50 administrative fee with all cancellations

Cottage Protocol: All cottages are full housekeeping units.  We do not service the cottages during your occupancy.  We provide linens and towels and will exchange them at your request. Free laundry facilities are located on the property. Everything is provided for multi- night stays.  You only need to provide your food, your favourite CDs, DVDs, and books.  The first bottle of wine is with our compliments.
